ATLETICO MADRID suffered a shock 2-1 loss to Mallorca at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium with Real Madrid loanee Takefusa Kubo scoring the late winner.

That was when the visitors put together an unbelievable comeback with Franco Russo outjumping Mario Hermoso from a free-kick and beating Jan Oblak with a precise header on 80 minutes.

And just 11 minutes later, during stoppage time, Kubo received a through pass from Angel Rodriguez and put the ball past Oblak to complete a stunning comeback for Luis Garcia Plaza’s side.

This loss leaves Atleti in fourth place of the LaLiga table with 10 points behind leaders Real.

Kubo joined Mallorca on loan from Los Blancos in the summer for the second time following stints with Villarreal and Getafe in between.

That was the winger’s first goal of the season and fifth in total out of 44 appearances across all competitions.

Kubo told Movistar after the match: “You almost never come back when Atleti are 1-0 up, but we tried to the end and with a bit of luck we made it.

“The team I don’t know, but I was confident that I was going to score the winning goal.”

Kubo is very pleased with helping Mallorca beat Atletico, but he’s also happy that the result also works in Real’s favour.

The Japan international added: “I think 100 per cent [it helps] Mallorca, but if I could help Madrid with the goal, even better.”
