‘Best Teammate’ in F1 History: Lewis Hamilton Showers Valtteri Bottas With the Ultimate Compliment

Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas have been teammates since 2017. Their partnership is one of the most successful the F1 grid has ever seen, as the Mercedes duo won four constructors’ championships.

Now in 2021, Botttas is in his last year with the Silver Arrows but will ensure to win another championship; ending his stint with the Brackley-based squad on a high. Additionally, Hamilton has adored having Bottas as his teammate, even calling him “The best teammate.”

The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix qualifying session is done and dusted with Hamilton taking pole. However, his teammate also showed great pace, setting the second-fastest lap of the session. Seeing they are amidst an intense title fight with Red Bull, Mercedes needs both drivers pushing themselves to the limit. Seeing that Bottas will no longer be his teammate next year, Hamilton showed the Finn with praises.

After the quali session, Hamilton said, “What a tough track this is. It’s amazing what they’ve built, the speed and the pace around here is phenomenal. “It’s a great result for the team and a great job by Valtteri. He’s the best teammate there’s ever been in this sport.”

A great qualifying pace by Hamilton in Jeddah

Hamilton brought his A-game to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, as he was the fastest in FP1 and FP2. However, for the final practice session, he was beaten by his arch-rival, Max Verstappen for the fastest lap. Hence, the 7-time world champion knew he had to step up his game if he wanted a shot at pole position.

The Mercedes driver was true to his word as he took pole position for Sunday’s race. But, it seems like Hamilton has luck by his side, as Verstappen crashed his Red Bull in the final corner, which resulted in Hamilton keeping his pole position.

However, the Knight won’t lose his focus as Max will be seeing the five-red lights from third on the grid. Seeing the threat Verstappen possesses, the Knight will do his best to keep the Red Bull prodigy in his rearview mirrors as they zip around Jeddah this weekend.
