‘Every Day Goes by We Still Think About Our Son’: Cordarrelle Patterson to Pay Tribute to His Son and Spread Awareness About Infant Loss

Fathers love their children more than anything in this world, and the Atlanta Falcons running back, Cordarrelle Patterson, is no different. He has been blessed with four children. However, unfortunately, Patterson lost his middle child, Zayn, while his partner, Taylor, was still pregnant.

Cordarrelle Patterson heavily moved after the loss of this son

The feeling of losing a child before they are born is unimaginable. In 2017, during the 18th or 20th week of Taylor’s pregnancy, they learned the unpleasant news. She still delivered the stillborn child. This has deeply affected the couple and they’re still in the process of recovering from their loss.

Patterson, “Every day goes by we still think about our son and what happened.” He wears a gold chain around his neck to honor his deceased son and keep him close to his heart. “It happens every day in life, honestly. Some people don’t understand that some ladies only have one chance to get pregnant, and they lose their baby and never have the opportunity to do it again.”

It is indeed heartbreaking news. A fate no one wishes.

“For me, it’s real big for me and my family, and just looking back, it’s sad. It’s heartbreaking.”

Patterson spreads pregnancy and infant loss awareness

In the week 13 game vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Patterson will wear a special pair of shoes. His cleats will be multicolored and have butterflies on them. On the side of the shoes, there will be words reading, “Pregnancy and infant loss awareness”

Cordarrelle wants to spread awareness, acknowledge and support the women and couples who went through similar experiences like he did.

“You never think it can happen to you.” said Patterson. “It makes you look at life different. People don’t think it can happen to them, but it happens every day in life and when it happens to you, that’s when it hits home.”

The grief of losing his son is never-ending. Patterson remembers his kid every day, and he wants to help others who lost their children too. He wants to send a message to those people and let them know they are not alone. Life can be beautiful, but it can also be harsh.
