Dusty Crum, one of the stars of Guardians of the Glades, has been involved in a serious car crash in which he almost lost his leg.

The snake hunter, 41, who stars in the Discovery show, was a passenger in the truck which crashed last month, leaving him with serious injuries.

He told TMZ that he was in the passenger seat of the truck when a tyre blew out on a highway in Florida, causing the driver to lose control.

The truck ‘fishtailed’ before flipping three times, with Dusty claiming his window broke when the car flipped and his leg went out of it, getting crushed by the weight of the vehicle.

He says he managed to pull his leg back inside as the truck kept rolling, but was left with severe damage to his lower right leg and knee.

Dusty was airlifted to hospital where doctors were thankfully able to save his leg after five different surgical procedures.

The python hunter, known as The Wildman, feared he would die after the accident, but used his quick-thinking to create a tourniquet from his shirt to stop the bleeding while he waited for paramedics at the side of the road.

He has remained in hospital for almost four weeks following the surgery and is hoping to move to a rehabilitation facility in the next few days to continue his recovery.

His friends have started a GoFundMe to raise money for his medical bills as the TV star does not have health insurance and hospital treatment can run into tens of thousands of dollars in the US, as well as asking fans to consider buying Christmas gifts from his online store.

Dusty sells products made from the pythons he has captured, which he doesn’t like putting down but is a necessity to stop them devastating the fragile ecosystem in the Florida Everglades.
