Nadine Coyle would love to appear in Derry Girls and has even been thinking about the type of characters she could play.
The Girls Aloud star is a big fan of the Channel 4 show – like tons of us across the world.
But for Nadine the love of the show goes deeper than it just being hilarious, witty and touching – she herself is from Derry, and grew up in the same era the show is set in: pre-Good Friday Agreement Northern Ireland.
‘I think it’s so funny what they’ve done, it brought it all back to me’, the singer, 36, told Metro.co.uk.
‘It reminds you of a lot of stuff that you went through in school which you kind of forget, and you just think it’s normal and you watch it back and think, “Actually, that’s not that normal at all.”
‘But it’s great to see it done in such a comedic way, kind of making light of it instead of it being all heavy and serious.’
Fans of both the show and the singer had been hoping the OG Derry Girl would make a cameo in the third series, confirmed by creator Lisa McGee to be its last, and Nadine herself would love the opportunity to appear in the show.
‘I’ve thought of all the different kind of roles that I could play!’, she admitted.

‘I could probably put a school uniform on – I know that some of the older girls are around my age, even though they’re acting like 15 year olds.
‘Then I was thinking maybe I could be a hairdresser or something, just thinking of all these possible roles.’
Tragically for Nadine – and everyone who would love to see her make a surprise cameo – she hasn’t been approached to appear in the show, and has accepted: ‘I just have to enjoy it as a fan.’

Even if she won’t make an official appearance, the Sound Of The Underground hitmaker will always have a connection to the series as it’s set in her old secondary school.
And, she revealed, they even had their very own Sister Michael – though the students didn’t find her as funny as Siobhán McSweeney’s character.
‘Her name was Sister Christopher, she was the principal of the school’, Nadine recalled.
‘She was not like Sister Michael at all! I’m sure she might have been, in her own way, but we were just afraid of her.
‘We didn’t see the funny side of Sister Christopher. At all.’

Nadine previously spoke to Metro.co.uk where she revealed it’s not just Derry GIrls that reminds her of her past – 20 years after appearing on Irish Popstars and getting caught lying about her age, fans still won’t let her live it down.

The pop icon admitted that, just recently, a fan threw a passport on stage at her, and she ‘can’t even say the word passport’ without it turning into a big thing.
Nadine has also been giving back to the community by helping to launch the National Lottery’s Build Dreams Create Change campaign, which asks the public to consider how they can make a positive difference in their towns and cities.
