“We Are at a Disadvantage, Win the Last 2 Races” – Toto Wolff Makes a Demand to Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton topped the first two practice sessions of the inaugural Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver was ahead of his championship rival Max Verstappen in both sessions. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff claims Hamilton has to win both races in order to win the championship in 2021.
Wolff mentioned that despite Lewis’ advantage in terms of performance, he is still behind Verstappen in points. The Red Bull driver leads the 7-time world champion by 8 points with two races to go in the 2021 season.

We have to win the last two races: Wolff on Lewis Hamilton
As reported by Speedweek.com, the Austrian acknowledged that in the two practice sessions they were the fastest cars. But he stated that practice sessions often don’t show actual results on the weekend.
“It is difficult to say whether the potential of the car meets expectations because Friday is often misleading. You don’t know which engine modes the competition is using, and that’s why we often see great progress on Saturday too,” said Wolff.

Wolff, despite having a performance advantage over their rivals, was wary of the challenge of Red Bull. He mentioned that in his mind, the team has to win both remaining races to win the championship.
“Everything is still possible, but on paper, we are behind. I come from the financial world and it’s mostly about probabilities. And in purely mathematical terms, we are at a disadvantage. In summary, one can say: We have to win the last two races, it’s that simple.” concluded the Mercedes team boss.
The Austrian is right. In simple terms, Mercedes have to win both races to win the title. But it might not be as easy as the competition is really close between them and Red Bull. Verstappen was just a couple of tenths behind Hamilton in the practice sessions and did not get a clean lap in on quali simulations.
Let’s just hope that the end of the season lives up to the expectations.
