Strictly Come Dancing has attracted a lot of well-known competitors over the years, including Hollywood actor Greg Wise and McFly singer Tom Fletcher this season, but it’s also been turned down by a fair number of celebrities – including Michelle Keegan.
The soap star has publicly added her name to the list of people who have confirmed they’ve been asked to take part in the show but declined the offer, including Piers Morgan, Sir Patrick Stewart and Noel Gallagher.
Appearing on The Jonathan Ross Show, 34-year-old Michelle revealed that she had actually been approached one more than one occasion, but has always turned the opportunity down.
The popular former Coronation Street actress admitted on Friday’s episode: ‘I have a few times [been asked]. But for me, it’s the live audience… it’s a skill. It takes a lot of dedication and skill.
Her nerves extend beyond considering her own possible involvement in the show as she shared that even her husband Mark Wright’s appearance on Strictly in 2014 had made her anxious.
‘He did it like five years ago. It’s the music before it happens and the audience is really quiet and the lights come on. My heart was in my mouth for him,’ she said.

She added: ‘I couldn’t be on the dance floor, too scared, too nervous.’
Towie star Mark managed to make the final in his season, dancing with pro Karen Hauer.
Comedian Judi Love, who was also a guest of Jonathan Ross, and eliminated from the 2021 shows in week six with partner Graziano Di Prima, understood Michelle’s fear over the live element.
‘Dancing live you could trip, you could forget a step, it’s so huge,’ she agreed. ‘It’s when they say ‘dancing to’ – that’s the bit!’
Someone who might not take too much persuasion to take part on the BBC flagship entertainment show though is popular documentary maker Louis Theroux.

Chatting to Jonathan Ross in November, the broadcaster revealed: ‘I like to think I’m a good dancer. I know I’ve had too many drinks when I’m in the kitchen dancing while listening to something on the smart speaker – often hip-hop – and I start doing the funky robot and then I start doing MC Hammer spins.
