Warning: spoilers ahead for Money Heist season 5 part 2.

The final five episodes of La Casa De Papel have been released, bringing the powerful, high-octane story to a close in Money Heist season 5 part 2 on Netflix.

In the last instalment of the global phenomenon, the Professor (Álvaro Morte) must deal with the repercussions of a huge blunder on his part, as the members of his gang are left grappling with the notion that he might not be able to save them after all.

With the death of Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó) still leaving its mark, in addition to the death of Nairobi (Alba Flores) and the severe injury sustained by Helsinki (Darko Perić), the group are in dire straits as they reach the end of their journey.

With thrilling twists and turns right to the very end, the conclusion of Money Heist brings the tale to an epic close.

The gold is stolen

After everything the gang have been through, losing beloved members along the way, one twist that even they could never expect was that someone would take advantage of their hard work to steal the gold without dropping a bead of sweat.

Tatiana (Diana Gómez), who was married to Berlin (Pedro Alonso) and ran off with his son Rafael (Patrick Criado), was privy to the secrets of the plan to rob the Bank of Spain of its national reserve of gold, considering her ex-husband and his friend Martín, aka Palermo (Rodrigo de la Serna), had planned every aspect in extreme detail.

With flashbacks revealing Tatiana and Rafael’s affair, in present day, it’s revealed that they posed as police officers to make the Professor and his comrades believe that they had been caught, only to realise that they had been duped by one of the simplest tricks in the book.

Luckily, with the help of their new ally Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri) – who previously wanted nothing more than to catch the Professor red-handed – the group are able to locate the gold, which Rafael and Tatiana hid under a new plot of land that they purchased when they realised the Bank of Spain heist was a go.

Tamayo has the gang in his grip

The gang have been in tight spots before… but at the start of season five part two of Money Heist, it appears as though only a miracle can save them.

Colonel Tamayo has the group firmly in his grip, having carried out a covert operation to take over the bank, which involved getting more military forces into the building and catching the heist members off-guard.

With the gang on their knees with guns pointed at their heads, the Professor tells Tamayo that he wishes to surrender with his friends, urging him to let him enter the bank and surrender so that he can exit alongside them.

Despite being at his wits ends trying to figure out his final backup plan, the Professor is still trying to pull a card out from under his sleeve that even he doesn’t know exists.

Professor pulls off a clever ruse

When Tamayo orders his police force and the army to search for the missing gold, they mistakenly follow a trail of false breadcrumbs left for them by Marseille (Luka Peroš).

This plan involves tricking them into believing that the gold has been placed at the bottom of the ocean, with Tamayo enlisting the Navy for help to search in the wrong place.

While Tamayo wants to keep the search for the gold on the down-low, in the hope that he can convince the public that the gold is still in the Bank of Spain and the fight against the gang members is still going on, footage of the Navy’s ships conducting their search is quickly broadcast on the news.

This causes the economy in the country to crash, as without their national reserve, Spain is at risk of being declared bankrupt.

Reluctant Tamayo strikes a deal

At first, it appears that Tamayo is willing to go down with the sinking ship rather than agree to making a deal with the Professor.

However, he eventually sees the light, realising that the only way he can come out of this with a solid reputation is to go along with the heist leader’s plan.

The Professor arranges for a truck of gold inglots to arrive at the bank, leaving the impression that the gold has been discovered and returned… but the inglots in question are actually gold-covered brass, with the real gold still at large.

The Professor makes Tamayo realise that it doesn’t matter if the real gold hasn’t been returned, as the national reserve is never used – therefore if he decides to keep the secret, Spain can avoid bankruptcy and financial ruin, with the public none the wiser that the national reserve gold is fake.

Gang become ghosts as they’re set free

The Professor tells Tamayo that if he wants the fake gold to remain a secret, then he needs to publicly announce that the members of the gang in the bank have all been killed in an altercation, with only Denver left alive after supposedly cooperating with the police.

And so, the big question of how the remaining members of the gang can get out of the bank alive is answered as they leave the premises in body bags, sparking despair among the adoring crowds as their fans are left under the impression that their heroes are dead.
