Bianca Andreescu Announces Unhappy News for Australian Open 2022

One of the tennis players to have been unfortunately rattled by injuries very early in her career is Canada’s Bianca Andreescu. After a roaring start to her career that witnessed her destroying some top-notch opponents including Serena Williams at the 2019 US Open, the Canadian’s career graph was expected to shoot up.

As tennis began after a long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Andreescu decided to sit out of later stages of the 2020 season. Even before the pandemic, the Canadian missed the initial months on tour last year due to a knee injury.

Bianca Andreescu announces shock decision ahead of Australian tennis summer

Now, after an uneventful 2021 season, Andreescu announced on Twitter that she won’t be participating in the Australian tennis summer that’s scheduled to begin next January.

I want to give myself extra time to re-set, recover, and grow from this and continue to inspire by doing charity work, giving back and working on myself. I will therefore not start my season in Australia this(next) year, but will take some additional time to reflect, train, and be ready for the upcoming 2022 tennis season”.

In a way, this news might come off as a shock to fans who were expecting Andreescu to bounce back stronger on the WTA tour in Australia.

But, it’s important to note that the youngster faced a lot of challenges physically over the past couple of years and even during this season, she appeared to be bothered by one injury or the other on-court.
