Man Utd next manager – Mauricio Pochettino favourite for Red Devils job next season but Ralf Rangnick odds now slashed

MAURICIO POCHETTINO is still favourite to be Manchester United manager at the beginning of next season, according to Betfair.

However, the Paris Saint-Germain boss has been joined at the top of the betting market by interim chief Ralf Rangnick.

Pochettino was the clear frontrunner at 4/6 but he’s drifted into 6/4 after heavy support for Rangnick over the last 48 hours.

The plan was for Rangnick to move into a consultancy role at Old Trafford when his six-month deal expires.

But that’s no longer a given after the German revealed he could remain in charge beyond the summer.

At his unveiling, he said: “I mean, the people with whom I have spoken so far have been very clear that we’re talking about a six-and-a-half-month role as a manager currently.

“Maybe if they ask my opinion and everything goes well and we develop the team.

“I might even make the same recommendation to the board that I did at Leipzig twice, when I recommended it might be a good idea to keep working with me for one year.

“But this is all hypothetical.”

Rangnick started his reign with a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace courtesy of Fred’s second goal of the season.

It’s still early days but United’s early increase in intensity was noticeable and Champions League qualification could be enough to see the 63-year-old extend his stay.

Elsewhere Pochettino has remained coy on the situation, refusing to confirm or deny his interest in a return to the Premier League.

Recently asked about his future, Poch said: “We are always focused on the football – our games and our work. It is not us, nor the club, who generate these situations. It does not affect us.

“We are calm and humble. It is not us creating these rumours.”
