Mrs Brown’s Boys star Brendan O’Carroll has claimed that actual Beyonce has not only seen his work, but she finds him ‘hilarious’.

The 66-year-old actor revealed on Monday’s This Morning that the Formation superstar is a big fan after being introduced to the comic via US comedy legend Tyler Perry, who’s made a movie franchise starring as tough elderly woman Mandea.

The funnyman and American director Tyler teamed up for a film project overseas, which sees Mrs Brown and Tyler’s character Mabel Madea Simmons come together.

Brendan said: ‘Tyler Perry and I were sipping a coffee on a break one day, and out of nowhere, Tyler just says, “Oh I sent Beyonce a clip of what we’re doing, and she thought it was hilarious.”

‘And we’re like, “Beyonce?”‘ added a shocked Brendan.

Brendan and co-star Jennifer Gibney, who plays Cathy Brown on the sitcom, also teased fans on the upcoming Christmas and New Year’s special.

‘My family have matching pajamas that we all wear and we all watch the episode together, and we’ll be seeing it for the first time, just like you guys,’ said Jennifer.

The first episode, which is titled Mammy’s Mechanical Merriment, will see Agnes Brown become a new member of the church choir in Finglas – although she’s been instructed by Father McBride (Jimmy Gibney) not to sing or dance, making her membership something of a conundrum.

Meanwhile, Buster (Danny O’Carroll) has to tap into his creative side while facing a Christmas tree shortage, as he ponders how else he can impress Agnes in light of the hurdle.

Everyone is suspicious of Micky’s intentions – that is, except Grandad (Dermot O’Neill).

Taking the philosophy of New Year to heart, Winnie (Eilish O’Carroll) is keen for a big change in her life, having been inspired by the book written by Cathy.

When New Year’s comes around, Agnes and the family are going to be in for a reunion when Grandad’s brother, Micky, comes for a visit after a stint in the clink.

The annual special will also see Mrs Brown’s boys share a candid heart-to-heart as the story unravels.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and Mrs Brown’s Boys is available to watch on BBC One.
