WATCH: Team Russia and Andrey Rublev’s Davis Cup 2021 Celebrations Turn Wild

Team Russia finally lifted their first Davis Cup trophy after a long wait of fifteen years. On the back of stellar performances by World No. 5 Andrey Rublev and World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev, Russia won the Davis Cup against Croatia.

It was Andrey Rublev who won the first match in the singles tie against Borna Gojo in straight sets. Subsequently, Daniil Medvedev eased past Marin Cilic 7-6(7), 6-2 to give Russia their insuperable lead. Thus, the celebrations began.

As the Russians hoisted the beautiful Davis Cup above their heads, the celebrations began. The champagne came out, and so did the grins and laughs.

Andrey Rublev, in particular, was in his groove during the celebrations. The 24-year-old ensured that no single member of the Russian team remained dry. Thus, he doused absolutely everybody in the celebratory drink, running after staff members with a bottle in his hands.

Nobody minded Rublev’s antics, as the joy of winning the Davis Cup after a decade and a half was palpable for the team. Moreover, in a heartwarming gesture, Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev shared the cup with their mothers. Both their mothers were watching the finals from the stands.

Daniil Medvedev sparked Rublev’s champagne frenzy

Surprisingly, it was World No. 2 and fellow teammate Daniil Medvedev, who was the catalyst for Rublev’s frantic champagne antics! The 25-year-old poured a bottle of champagne on Rublev’s face while the latter was right in the middle of a victory selfie.

Consequently, Andrey took matters into his own hands to avenge his ‘ruined’ selfie, chasing down the Russian team’s members as he menacingly uncorked the bottle.
