Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis took on Isaac Cruz at the Staples Center on Sunday night. The most dangerous and watched boxer in the world as of now returns to the ring. ‘Tank’ looked to secure his 16th consecutive knockout as he entered the ring for a lightweight showdown against a feisty Mexican boxer in the form of Isaac Cruz.
For Cruz, this was the biggest fight of his career, looking to make a mark in the division. A star-studded crowd garnered the attention of fans and the media alike, as the Staples Center came alive for the fight. The entire arena roared as Jimmy Lennon Jr. announced Davis‘ name. From the minute the bell ran, Cruz came out swinging, unafraid of ‘Tank’s power.

Cruz connected with some good punches in the very first round, as the round ended with Cruz slipping and falling to the ground. Davis started out slowly, unable to land. Cruz kept up the pressure, throwing with bad intentions for the first three rounds. Davis began looking comfortable by the end of round three. Davis turned into a matador trying to control the ‘Pitbull’ as he came charging in.

‘Tank’ caught his rhythm and began showing his hand speed and movement. From the 4th round onwards, Davis kept getting better as the rounds progressed. By the 7th round, Davis took control of the center of the ring and turned the pressure on Cruz, who slowed down considerably. Cruz surged in the later rounds, but it was too little, too late for the Mexican.
The fight went the distance, and the judges scored the fight, 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113 to declare the winner by unanimous decision, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.
