Former President Donald Trump’s high profile ally Roger Stone has spoken about QAnon in a new documentary, saying that he ‘hopes it’s real’.

Brand new documentary The Cult of Conspiracy focused on QAnon – a wide-ranging conspiracy theory which has claimed that there is a cabal of Satan-worshipping paedophiles in government, business and the media.

It is thought these conspiracy theories first started in 2017, after an anonymous user posted a string of messages on the website 4chan, signing them off with the letter ‘Q’.

Most recently, the group grabbed headlines due to some members’ roles in the January riots that took place on Capitol Hill in the US – which landed ‘QAnon Shaman’ Jacob Chansley a 41-month prison sentence back in November.

Film-maker Ben Zand met prominent names in the documentary, including Mr Stone, who is one of the most significant political consultants of the past 40 years. He previously worked on the campaigns of Republican politicians including Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, and Donald Trump.

Speaking to film-maker Ben about QAnon he said: ‘I don’t know if it’s real, but I sure hope it is.’

Discussing people who read about QAnon, he said: ‘If that person wakes up and starts watching alternative media and isn’t getting all their news from CNN – if that person gets registered and votes, then I think we’ve accomplished something.’

He also added about the nature of free speech: ‘I love the first amendment. I love people’s right to say whatever they think it true and to defend their position.’

The 69-year-old also spoke about retired United States Army lieutenant general, Michael Flynn, and Donald Trump’s first national security adviser, who has been adopted by QAnon followers as a figurehead – despite his lack of official involvement.

Stone said that while he hopes Trump runs for President again in the future, he said that he hopes Donald Trump’s first national security adviser would run.

Stone in February 2020 was sentenced to more than three years in prison for making false statements, witness tampering and obstruction in former special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Trump pardoned Stone before leaving office.

The Cult of Conspiracy: QAnon is available to stream on All4.
