Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins: ‘You’re Playing Against a Killer Who Wants to Win at Any Cost. Michael Jordan Was a Killer. He Wanted to Take Your Heart’
Dominique Wilkins is one of the greatest dunkers in NBA history, but his inspiration came from Michael Jordan, who he credits as “one of the best players ever to grace the NBA.” The Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks both naturally captivate viewers with their memorable battles whenever they compete.
Through their tough competition during the game, they showed the audience the best of who they are. Recently, Wilkins told a story and spoke about his respect for Jordan in an interview with The Athletic.
The greatest matches of Dominique Wilkins’ career
The Athletic, making a list of the top 75 NBA players for the 75th anniversary of the NBA. Featured Wilkings and mentioned some incidents from the 1990s and his best performances with Jordan.
“Last time I saw Mike I said, ‘Do you remember that happening?’ He goes, ‘I don’t recall it happening.’ I said, ‘Bullshit. Bullshit,‘” Wilkins said, laughing. “Mike and I are good friends. We always respected each other. We lived to compete against each other. I played against a lot of great players, but one guy bought the most out of me, and that was playing against Michael. He’s going to bring it to you, and if you’re not ready to give it back, you already lost.”

“It was entertainment at the highest level. You’re playing against a killer who wants to win at any cost. Mike was a killer. He wanted to take your heart, but I had the same mentality. I wanted to take the heart of whoever was guarding me.”
There were 45 times during the regular season when Jordan and Wilkins faced each other. The greatest match between Jordan and Wilkins was played in 1988 at All-Star Weekend in Chicago.

In the stadium that day, both players gave a phenomenal performance. Jordan has always been known for his killer instinct, and Wilkins witnessed some of it firsthand.
