Hugh Hefner was sent into a blind rage after Playboy bunny Holly Madison cut her hair short.
A new documentary shedding light on the former Playboy magazine founder, who died aged 91 in 2017 from sepsis brought on by an E.coli infection, is set to expose some of his ‘complicated legacy’.
Holly dated Hefner from 2001 to 2008 and shares some of the verbal abuse she was subjected to from him after a trip to the salon.
‘I came back with short hair and he flipped out on me,’ she says, according to quotes obtained by EW. ‘And he was screaming at me that it made me look old, hard, and cheap.’
It wasn’t just Holly’s hair that angered Hefner though, as his other girlfriend Bridget Marquardt goes on to explain.
‘Hef would be pretty abrasive in the way he said things to Holly,’ Bridget, who also dated the Playboy founder from 2001 to 2008, adds.

‘She came down with red lipstick one time and he like flipped out and said he hated red lipstick on girls, [and that she] should take it off right away.
‘Even though other people could wear red lipstick and it didn’t seem to bother him.’
Secrets Of Playboy is a 10-part documentary featuring archival footage and exclusive interviews with insiders including director of Playmate Promotions Miki Garcia, Hefner’s past girlfriends and his personal valet Stefan Tetenbaum.

According to a press release, Playboy’s ‘glossy façade’ was a ‘more sinister reality’ with ‘nefarious conduct including sexual assault and drug abuse to flourish, and where prostitution, suicide and even murder lurked in the shadows.’
‘The fantasy world of Playboy has been shrouded in secrecy for decades and we are proud to lift the veil on these long-hidden stories,’ said Elaine Frontain Bryant, Executive Vice President and Head of Programming for A&E in a statement.

Secrets Of Playboy premieres January 24, 2022 on A&E in the US.
