James Bond producers don’t know how to bring 007 back after No Time to Die’s explosive ending: ‘We’ll figure it out’

James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson have admitted they don’t know how they’re going to bring the secret agent back, but have reassured fans that they’ll ‘figure it out’.

Daniel Craig saw out his final Bond film quite literally with a bang as (spoiler alert!), the secret agent was killed off by an MI6 missile strike.

While a new actor is set to take over the license to kill, the producers admitted at Deadline’s Contenders Film: New York event that they’re not completely sure on how that’s going to happen.

‘We’ll figure that one out, but he will be back,’ Barbara announced.

‘You can rest assured James Bond will be back.’

As for who’s set to take on the role, the battle is still ‘wide open’, according to MGM boss Pamela Abdy.

Abdy, who serves as MGM’s President of Motion Pictures, has revealed that the studio has had ‘preliminary conversations’ with Broccoli and Wilson about who will replace Daniel, after he bowed out as Bond in recent blockbuster No Time To Die.

She told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘It’s wide open. We’ve had very early preliminary conversations with Barbara and Michael, but we wanted Daniel to have his last hurrah.’

Idris Elba has been a firm favourite as a potential 007 but it was recently reported that the Luther star was in ‘early’ talks to play a Bond villain.

A source told The Sun: ‘Idris has had informal talks with the studio and he has been told there is a role in the next Bond film for him, if he wants it.

‘He won’t be the title character, but they do recognise the amount of pull and respect he commands, and they want to work with him on a completely original character for the next instalment.

More: James Bond

‘It is still very early days for the conversations but, so far, it looks like it would be the role of a villain.’

Meanwhile, others including Rege-Jean Page, Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill, and James Norton are front-runners, according to the bookies.
