Phillip Schofield was praised by those watching This Morning after questioning Matt Hancock over whether it was his dyslexia made him break social distancing rules over the summer.

The former Health Secretary appeared on Tuesday’s edition of the ITV show where he was interviewed by Holly Willoughby and Phil.

Hancock, who has dyslexia, was on the programme to chat about the new bill he is putting forward to Parliament proposing all primary school children are screened for the condition.

But Phillip didn’t miss out on the opportunity to ask him about his rule-breaking back in the summer after a video was released of the MP by The Sun in an embrace with his colleague Gina Colangelo.

The presenter asked him: ‘Was it your dyslexia that meant you misread the social distancing rules?’

Holly was seen smirking at her co-star’s line of questioning before the guest gave his answer.

He replied: ‘No, I can’t blame that in dyslexia or on anything else.

‘In fact, I’m not asking for any special favours because I’m dyslexic.

‘In politics, I’ve got some things to offer, in that case, that was a mistake and apologised for it

‘It was a failure of leadership, I came on shows like this and asked people to do things and then didn’t follow those rules myself,’ he added.

Those tuning into the interview at home soon picked up on the ‘savage’ line of questioning from the host.

‘He really went there, good on ya Phil!’ wrote one fan, with another agreeing: ‘Savage from Phil.’

A viewer commented: ‘I thought the interview about dyslexia was very very good, I thought they were both very respectful. It is a difficult subject to tackle, however, I really loved the comment that Phil made it even bought a smile to Matt’s face! Well done @Schofe and @hollywills.’

‘Oh Phil that was a sly question to Matt about COVID. Well done,’ another said, with someone else on Twitter adding: ‘@Schofe that was so naughty! @hollywills ‘s face was a picture!’

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
