Ridley Scott had quite a strong reaction when a reporter said his new movie The Last Duel looked ‘more realistic’ than Robin Hood and Kingdom of Heaven, telling them to ‘go f**k yourself’.
The acclaimed filmmaker has directed The Last Duel, starring Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Jodie Comer and Adam Driver. It follows King Charles VI as he declares that Knight Jean de Carrouges must settle his dispute with his squire by challenging him to a duel.
Ridley, 84, recently sat down for an interview alongside Jodie, 28, for a Russian media outlet.
A short clip of the reporter’s virtual conversation with the stars was released online last week, and it wasn’t your run-of-the-mill interview.
Discussing The Last Duel, the journalist remarked: ‘It looks more realistic than Kingdom Of Heaven or Robin Hood.’
Ridley then exclaimed calmly: ‘Sir, f*** you. F*** you. Thank you very much. F*** you. Go f*** yourself, sir. Go on.’
The reporter didn’t seem to be offended in the moment and laughed it off, while Jodie – who was sat beside Ridley – looked on awkwardly before raising a slight smile and chuckling while looking down.
Defending the reporter, one spectator said on Twitter: ‘I think what gets me is the interviewer seemed to be paying him a genuine compliment, I didn’t see the rest of the interview but it feels like he actually LIKED the movie in question based on his tone.’
Agreeing with their sentiments, another said: ‘Goddamnit, Ridley. You may have made classics such as Alien, Legend, Blade Runner, Gladiator, etc. but come on, man, don’t be hard on the interviewer just because he thinks this film is more “realistic” than some of your other films.’

Amused by Jodie’s reaction, another laughed: ‘Jodie Comer’s face is sending me lol.’
Also reacting to the viral clip, one tweeted: ‘When you reach a certain age… social pleasantries are out the door.’
One Twitter user wrote while referring to Ridley: ‘He knows exactly what he’s doing at this point and I couldn’t love him more for it.’
Ridley recently blamed millennials for The Last Duel’s poor box office performance, as it grossed $27million (£20m) on a $100m (£74m) budget.

Speaking on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, he said: ‘I think what it boils down to — what we’ve got today [are] the audiences who were brought up on these f***ing cell phones.
‘The millennials do not ever want to be taught anything unless you are told it on the cell phone.’
The Last Duel is available to watch on Disney Plus.
