Succession star Brian Cox has spoken about his co-star Jeremy Strong, admitting he is ‘worried’ about his acting method and the lengths he’s willing to go to for the part.

Jeremy plays Kendall Roy in the hit HBO drama and recently said in a recent profile that ‘I think you have to go through whatever the ordeal is that the character has to go through.’

He added: ‘And usually that means clearing away almost everything around and inside you, so you can be a more complete vessel for the work at hand.’

Now, Brian has spoken about Jeremy’s approach and said he ‘needs to be kinder to himself’.

‘The result that Jeremy gets is always pretty tremendous,’ Cox told The New Yorker. ‘I just worry about what he does to himself. I worry about the crises he puts himself through in order to prepare.’

‘It’s the cost to himself that worries me,’ he added. ‘I just feel that he just has to be kinder to himself, and therefore has to be a bit kinder to everybody else.’

The actor went on to say: ‘Actors are funny creatures. I’ve worked with intense actors before. It’s a particularly American disease, I think, this inability to separate yourself off while you’re doing the job.’

Brian is known for playing media magnate Logan Roy and family patriarch in Succession, which first aired in 2018.

Succession returned to HBO and Sky Atlantic for a third series last month after extended delays due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The new episodes follow the aftermath of Roman’s brother Kendall’s explosive press conference, in which he made allegations about their father’s complicity in crimes and misconduct in the company’s cruise division.

Succession is available to stream on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.
