‘King Richard’ has been the talk of the town since the film made its debut in theatres. The movie beautifully depicts the commitment of Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena Williams. One person who doesn’t get enough credit for her role in the journey of Serena and Venus is their mother, Oracene Price.

Aunjanue Ellis, the actor playing Price in the movie, described Oracene as the builder of the dream. Oracene Price was the mother as well as coach of Venus and Serena. While talking about her character, Ellis got emotional as she believed Oracene was the essence of the movie.

‘King Richard’ depicts the incredible journey to stardom of the Williams family. Both Richard Williams and Oracene Price made huge contributions in making the young girls the legends they are today. Recently, Aunjanue Ellis expressed her feelings of getting into the character of Oracene.

According to Ellis, their mother deserved a special mention in their lives. She said, “That if Mr. Richard was an architect of that dream, then Miss Oracene was a builder of that dream. And see the difference is that an architect can draw a sketch and he leaves, right? But the builders are there every day.”

Ellis has perfectly detailed the contribution of Oracene Price. Price was not only mother to Venus and Serena Williams, but was also a valuable coach to both the young girls.

Aunjanue Ellis got emotional talking about Oracene Price

Furthermore, Aunjanue also mentioned about the motherhood of Oracene Price. In her words, she said, “She was sewing their outfits. She was doing their hair. She was cooking, cleaning, and I cannot say enough about this woman that no one knows.”

“And so, I’m so excited that people always see her in the stands. I’m getting a little emotional, I’m sorry. People see her in the stands, and they see her clapping for her daughters. But now, hopefully, with the film, people will see the flowers that she deserves,” Ellis added.

While everyone is praising Richard Williams, Oracene Price was also one of the key pillars in the lives of Venus and Serena Williams. Her contribution and support is truly admirable and as Ellis said, she should get the flowers she deserves.
