Johnny Gargano and Kyle O’Reilly appeared to get an emotional sent-off after WWE NXT 2.0 this week.
The two superstars, who were major players on the black and gold brand and continued to play a big role after its shift in direction earlier this year, are said to be leaving the company and there is even more speculation after last night’s events.
Johnny was visibly fighting back tears as he came out to address the fans, and he said: ‘I’m sorry this isn’t going to be my most eloquent promo because I didn’t want to think of what I said beforehand and live in this moment with you, because if there was one regret I had over the past 6 years here, it was that I didn’t enjoy it more.
‘I always worried if it was good enough because I wanted you to have the best.’
He reflected on his journey in WWE, from William Regal helping him after a failed tryout in 2015, to his ‘TakeOver main events, action figures, video games’.
He added: ‘I’ve dealt with self-confidence issues my entire life, I doubt myself constantly, I’m doubting myself right now, but the only place I’ve ever felt important, ever felt special, was in this ring in front of you.
‘And for years people have asked me why I’ve been in NXT so long, and it’s because I love and believe in this place.
‘Because my family is in Ohio, but I also have family back there. Hunter and Shawn mean the world to me, but there are also so many people you don’t know.’
He insisted change ‘sometimes needs to happen’, and admitted his ‘immediate future’ is still uncertain.
‘I don’t know what my immediate future holds, that’s up in the air now still, I may do some things here and there, but I do know one thing for sure, but in February, I’m going to start the most important job of my life, because I’m going to be a dad,’ he said.
‘He’s going to watch this back one day and thank you all, but I’m so excited for that, because I’m going to love that little guy so much, but right now the most important thing for me is to worry about Candice, and show my son he can be the best man he can be.’
After this, he was attacked by Grayson Waller, who took him out with a steel chair, slammed him into the steps and sent him through the announce table.

After the show went off-air, Gargano shared an emotional moment with long-time tag team partner and rival Tommaso Ciampa, before they were joined by Kyle O’Reilly.
The former Undisputed Era star was seemingly written off TV earlier in the night at the hands of Von Wagner, and he appeared to be saying goodbye.
Gargano also had a moment with Shawn Michaels, and his future remains unclear.
*WWE NXT 2.0 airs Tuesday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
