Kevin Durant has a Massive Back Tattoo That References the Bible

Along with their play on the basketball court, NBA players are known for the various tattoos they choose to get over the span of their careers – flashy or otherwise. Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant, who has over ten tattoos of his own, is one such NBA icon who has a few easily visible tattoos. One of these prominent tattoos is one that he got on his back in 2013.

Unlike some other smaller tattoos, Durant’s back tattoo seems like it took some time to complete. Let’s take a look at the NBA star’s iconic tattoo, and what it exactly reads.

By the looks of it, the two-time NBA champion had a great time with the tattoo. He even donated $1 million for Oklahoma’s tornado disaster relief the same week he got it.

Durant’s tattoo is actually a Bible passage, James 1:2-4. However, as per reports, Durant’s tattoo, unfortunately, reads ‘mautre’ instead of ‘mature’. While the meaning behind the tattoo is not lost, the spelling error will always remain.

Here’s what the passage is supposed to read:

Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.

Other iconic Kevin Durant tattoos over the years

One of the most iconic Durant tattoos is a Tupac Portrait on his left calf. Durant has been inspired by Tupac and especially his role as a champion of Black Lives. Durant also has a Rick James tattoo in his left thigh, and a lion tattoo on his right calf.

The James tattoo is supposed to be a tribute to how he was inspired by him during his childhood, and the lion tattoo is supposed to signify pride and self-confidence.

He even has some chest tattoos, honouring his mother Wanda, and grandmother Barbara. For his grandmother, he has a dove bird with the words Barbara tattooed, meant to signify love. On the other side, he has the words Wanda written with a rose with it.

Durant even has a cross tattoo on his stomach, along with a ‘W’ for ‘Washington’.

Interestingly, an angel tattoo covers his upper back. The angel is holding a basketball with the number ’35’ written on it. He even has a Maryland tattoo, which is meant to be a tribute to his home state.
