Sad Detail Emerges on Serena Williams’ Return at Australian Open 2022

The biggest news of 2021 has come. Serena Williams, who previously confirmed that she’s confident in her participation at the Australian Open 2022 has shockingly not given her name to the organizers according to the unofficial list released by Ben Rothenberg, a renowned journalist.

Williams played her last professional match at Wimbledon this year. However, in the opening match itself, she sustained a serious hamstring injury which forced her to retire.

Serena Williams didn’t register her name for the Australian Open 2022

It seems like former World No. 1, Serena Williams has surprisingly not enrolled her name for the Australian Open 2022. Ben Rothenberg, a famous journalist recently released an unofficial list of the participants of the Australian Open 2022. Evidently, Williams’ name wasn’t tracked, which means she is out of the Australian Open 2022.

Only three top-120 players do not appear on the initial (unofficial) version of the #AusOpen women’s singles entry list that I’ve seen:

#46 Bianca Andreescu (as she announced recently)

#109 Svetlana Kuznetsova (who hasn’t played since Wimbledon)

and…

#41 Serena Williams.

Recently, in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Serena Williams revealed some major injury updates. “Hamstring’s better. [It] took a long time. It’s like forever, but it’s much better now,” she said. Moreover, as Serena talked about the recovery, she looked confident on her comeback.

In addition, when asked to comment on whether she’s ready to compete at the Australian Open 2022, she optimistically quoted, “I am definitely, yeah.” Despite giving such good news, the 40-years-old hasn’t entered her name in the ultimate list of ‘Happy Slam’ 2022.

Serena’s last professional match

Serena Williams last competed professionally at Wimbledon 2021. In her first match of the tournament against Aliaksandra Sasnovich, she was forced to retire in the opening set. Serena tragically suffered a hamstring injury, as she looked highly upset while leaving the court.

Since then, Serena Williams hasn’t played at the highest level. Moreover, despite delivering this good news on her injury, she wasn’t spotted training even once.

With such terrible news regarding the Australian Open 2022, fans must be absolutely gutted not to witness their favourite star in Melbourne.
