American Logan Sargeant Set to Represent Williams F1 in the Upcoming Abu Dhabi Young Driver Test

It is that time of the year, as we await the line-ups for the young driver’s test in Abu Dhabi scheduled after the F1 finale. Alpine recently affirmed that the 2021 F2 title-favorite, Oscar Piastri, would be representing the French outfit at Yas Marina. Well, only days later, the next in line to reveal their driver are Williams Racing.

American racer, Logan Sargeant, will be taking part in the rookie test for Williams at Yas Marina this time around. The Dorilton Capital-led outfit signed Sargeant as their academy driver back in October this year during the race weekend at the Circuit of The Americas, making him only the 4th current academy driver of Williams.

Sargeant is currently competing in Formula 2 as a guest driver for the HWB Race Lab racing team. Along with the 4-race stint in F2, Sargeant also competed in Formula 3 for a couple of seasons in 2020 and 2021.

The former F3 season witnessed the American secure a rather impressive P3 in the championship, after having claimed 2 race victories and 6 podiums.

Future Williams F1 driver in the making?

Certainly! Sargeant has been one of the growing talents of the motorsport industry and even proved his worth in 2020 with F3. Apart from the Formula series, Sargeant also took part in European Le Mans Series and Le Mans Cup, racing for Turkey and Iron Lynx, respectively.

And to make 2021 even more exhilarating, the 20-year-old will be driving an F1 car for the first time in December, closing out what has undeniably been an amazing year for the young Williams development driver.

In addition to that, Sargeant is likely to receive a few opportunities mid-2022 F1 season as well amidst the latest rule. With F1 urging F1 teams to offer rookies a few practice sessions, Sargeant might well find himself working alongside Alex Albon or Nicholas Latifi amidst what is one of the finest groups of engineers in the entire paddock next year.

Apart from Sargeant, other drivers like Jack Aitken, Roy Nissany, and maybe, even, Jamie Chadwick might receive an opportunity or two in the coming years.
