Warning: spoilers ahead for Hawkeye episode 4 on Disney Plus.
Hawkeye fans have expressed their heartbreak after spotting the tributes that Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova made to Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow in episode four of the Marvel series.
In the final moments of the latest instalment, Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) and Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) were in the middle of a fight with Echo (Alaqua Cox) when they came face-to-face with their new adversary.
While Clint realised that she’s a Black Widow assassin, it didn’t seem to have dawned on him that she’s the sister of his late best friend Natasha Romanoff.
When Yelena’s mask first came off, she was positioned with her back to the camera, revealing a plaited braid similar to the way Natasha would style her hair.
The young assassin also posed on the ground in a way that resembled her sibling, despite having mocked her for it in the Black Widow movie.

Fans instantly picked up on the nods to Natasha, with tears flowing as they were reminded once more of her tragic death in Avengers: Endgame.
‘Can we please mention the fact that Yelena did Natasha’s pose,’ one person tweeted with a sobbing emoji, as someone else replied: ‘And she had the same braid. I can’t do this anymore.’
‘We wanted references but not this kind of, I’m crying,’ another viewer wrote.
One fan said that they ‘almost cried’ when they noticed the similarities, while someone else remarked: ‘Crying, screaming, throwing up.’
While fans knew that Yelena would be showing up in the series, it’s safe to say her appearance has left a huge impression.
When the episode was released on Disney Plus, Florence expressed her excitement by sharing a couple of images from her scene on Instagram, alongside the caption: ‘She’s here.’
Following her celebratory message, she later revealed on her Instagram Story that she had been blocked from sharing Hawkeye-related post after someone complained, as some fans hadn’t seen the episode yet.
‘I never thought posting about a show in which I appear would get taken down…but here we are,’ she wrote.

‘Someone on here complained so I’ve been blocked from posting my own appearance on a show that I’m very much in. Beyond ridiculous.
‘Being in #Hawkeye is a privilege and thank you to all who welcomed me on set and off and all who are watching.’
Hawkeye is available to watch on Disney Plus with new episodes released on Wednesdays.
