Richard Sherman Furious With JC Jackson’s Contract With the New England Patriots Despite Committing to the Franchise

New England Patriots cornerback JC Jackson is in the final year of his contract with the franchise. When the market opens in March, he will be an unrestricted free agent. It legitimately upsets Richard Sherman, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ defensive back, that the Patriots hasn’t offered the CB a contract extension till now, which he deserves.

“It pisses me off, they won’t pay that man his money,” Sherman said on the latest episode of his own podcast.

Jackson will be one of the best defensive players available if he reaches free agency. His next contract may pay him as much as $15 million every season. However, keeping in mind his 24 interceptions since the start of the 2018 season that price seems to be worth it. Jackson also excels at man coverage, a talent that is in high demand in free agency.

Jackson, who is only 25, is a young man. He’s at the pinnacle of his profession. The Patriots also don’t have another cornerback on the roster who can play in the No. 1 spot. Although with Gilmore, things were quite different since Jackson has delivered in his promise to step up and shut off the opponent’s top wide receivers. However, there is no one else on the team’s cornerback depth chart who can match his abilities.

When asked about his future late last month, Jackson did indicate that he enjoys playing with the Patriots.

“I love playing for the New England Patriots, playing under coach Belichick,” Jackson said on Nov. 26. “I have grown as a football player since I’ve been here … It’s a place that gave me a chance from Day 1. I would love to be a New England Patriot for a long time.”

However, the concern isn’t whether Jackson will get a sizable increase in his next deal; it’s whether the Patriots will be the ones to foot the bill. When Malcolm Butler became available for free agency in 2018, they didn’t give him a big contract. Stephon Gilmore was also not given a contract extension this season. Instead, he was traded to the Carolina Panthers in October. But the question is that will the same happen to JC Jackson?
