Bugzy Malone is throwing his name into the hat as James Bond producers scout for Daniel Craig’s replacement, and has teased: ‘Nothing’s impossible.’

The 30-year-old rapper will be making his second acting appearance in Guy Ritchie’s action blockbuster Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre, starring alongside Hugh Grant, Jason Statham and Aubrey Plaza.

It comes after he made his debut in Ritchie’s 2019 crime comedy The Gentleman.

Operation Fortune will see Bugzy in the thick of all the action as he plays an agent alongside Statham and, if the trailer is anything to go by, we’re in for a fun caper.

Sharing how he began working with Ritchie, Bugzy – real name Aaron Davis – told Metro.co.uk: ‘I auditioned for the first film and was told he wanted to meet me. We sat down, had a conversation and he decided to give me the part.

‘I did The Gentlemen, that seemed to go well, people seemed to like it and I did the soundtrack on there, and then I was lucky enough to be involved in this one as well so we’ll see how it goes down.’

When asked if he’s always wanted to get into acting, Bugzy, who has just released his new trainer with JD Sports Skeleton X1, explained: ‘I think it’s a natural extension of doing a job that means you’re on camera all the time and production sets. It’s quite physical, I train a lot and quite good in the discipline, a few other bits, I felt like I’d be able to add something to a film and here we are.’

Operation Fortune follows MI6 agent Orson Fortune and his team of operatives recruit one of Hollywood’s biggest movie stars to help them on an undercover mission when the sale of a deadly new weapons technology threatens to disrupt the world order.

It’ll be a marked change for Love Actually star Grant, who is renowned for rom-coms, and Bugzy promises his performance will deliver.

‘I think this is Hugh’s second or third time breaking the old character that we all know him for so that was interesting to watch,’ the rapper said. ‘ Obviously Jason Statham’s in there, he’s an agent, I’m an agent and we’re on the same team. So we’re out there fighting, shooting guns, it was a load of fun.’

With all the action scenes under his belt, Bugzy would be a good fit for Bond’s tux, especially with speculation producers could cast the first Black male 007 and suggestions they’re after a young actor.

Is Bugzy eyeing up the role? He teased: ‘Potentially, we’ll have to just see what happens, I don’t think anything’s impossible.’

The Body rapper explained that it’s a great time for British rappers to break out into other projects outside of music, and said: ‘People like me are breaking doors down and in 10 years time it would have matured more so there will be rappers who are actors, rappers who are clothing moguls, doing all types of stuff.

‘It just happens to be now and I’m one of the ones who are breaking the door down.’

The Manchester-native has just completed a UK tour which featured shows in London, Newcastle and Birmingham to name a few.

However, it’ll be the last time fans see Bugzy on stage for a while as it was his farewell tour, with the rapper deciding to quit live performing.

The War Mode hitmaker explained: ‘I’ve just decided it’s the last tour, I’ve done about five or six now at this point and it’s a big commitment so I wanted to make sure I could give it 100% and at this point I’ve different obligations and a few bits coming so that’s it really.’

Bugzy still plans on performing at festivals occasionally and will still record music, but stated it was time to hang up the mic.

‘When I was out there [on tour] I did feel the connection and I did think I would miss touring but, like I say, as of now it’s just something that’s off the table and we’ll see what the future holds,’ he said.
