“I Heard It’s a Million Dollars!” – Sebastian Vettel Stokes More Fire to Recent F1 Rumours

Unlike the past, the 2021 F1 season has the drivers battling not for two, but three distinct trophies; Of course, two of the trophies belong to the driver’s and the constructor’s world champion. Interestingly, the third trophy is for a rather unique statistic; most overtaking maneuvers over this season.

Since this is the first time , the entire F1 community still isn’t aware of the gift that awaits the winner by the end of the season. While it is obvious that there will be a trophy for the driver that tops the standings, will there be any prize money beyond that?

Well, Sebastian Vettel, who is currently the favorite to secure the debut Crypto.com Overtake Award, joked about a rumor that he came across regarding the prize money.

What did Sebastian Vettel say?

During the press conference ahead of the Abu Dhabi GP, the 4-time world champion hilariously reckoned that the winner would receive prize money of $1 million.

When asked about the prize money – “No! I heard it’s a million dollars! But I’m not sure, might just be rumours…” Vettel replied according to Autosport.

As of now, Vettel is leading the pack in this interesting pursuit of the trophy, with long-term F1 colleagues, Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen, tagging along quite closely.

Who is likely to win the F1 Overtake Award?

We’d say either Vettel or Alonso. Raikkonen was very much close to the duo until the Qatar GP. However, following the Saudi Arabian GP, the Finn has dropped back, with over 4 overtakes separating himself and the Renault world champion.

Behind the top 3, the other Aston Martin of Lance Stroll is holding onto P4, but hardly safe, as Carlos Sainz is only an overtake away from equaling the numbers with the Canadian. Sergio Perez, too, is only a couple of overtakes away from Sainz. Hence, a tough battle on cards

Standings as of the Saudi Arabian GP

Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin) – 127
Fernando Alonso (Alpine) – 125
Kimi Raikkonen (Alfa Romeo) – 121
Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) – 116
Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) – 115
Sergio Perez (Red Bull Racing) – 113
Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren) – 109
Yuki Tsunoda (AlphaTauri) – 105
