David Ginola has admitted his time on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! has led him to consider having therapy after his near-death experience in 2016.

The former football star, 54, suffered a heart attack on the pitch during a charity match in France five years ago.

He was clinically dead for 12 minutes before he was eventually revived with CPR; a doctor later called it ‘a miracle’ that he survived.

David has now revealed that he is finally considering going to therapy to deal with the trauma the incident caused him.

On Friday’s episode of I’m A Celeb, the football pundit was asked by The Saturday’s star Frankie Bridge if he had ever spoken to a therapist following the traumatic experience.

In response, he admitted he ‘should have’, but never did.

‘When I was out of the hospital, it was the first thing they asked me to do,’ he revealed.

While he never took up the opportunity, he has since changed his mind during his time in the castle, and told Frankie ‘I will [get some].’

A concerned Frankie told David it would ‘make me happy if you did’, with David agreeing that he ‘thinks it’s necessary’ to ‘clarify’ his feelings around his experience.

When asked if he had a fear of dying, the football star insisted he did ‘not anymore.’

Frankie, speaking in The Telegraph after the intimate conversation, said it was ‘amazing’ to hear David open up, as he is usually ‘a man of few words’, and she was glad his time in the castle led him to consider therapy.

Despite usually being rather stoic, David recently became emotional as the camp mates read out letters from their families watching on the outside.

David’s girlfriend, Maeva Denat – who he first met on the day he almost died – sent him a gorgeous letter where she revealed that their daughter, Ever, ‘asks after you every day, she misses you so much’.

Following the letter being read out – after he had to wait an extra long time to receive his note from home – David said he was a ‘lucky guy’ and blew kisses into the air.

He added later in the Bush Telegraph: ‘All this love there, I can go through anything.’

I’m A Celebrity airs daily on ITV at 9pm.
