“NBA Is Kind of Like WWE”: Hornets’ Miles Bridges Downplays Scuffle With Andre Drummond
The 2021-22 NBA season has been no stranger to fights and altercations. Naturally, as the teams battle for supremacy, tensions are bound to flare up. In the most recent of these scuffs, Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges squared off against Philadelphia 76ers powerhouse Andre Drummond. In the aftermath of the argument however, the youngster downplayed the chance of a violent fight breaking out, comparing the NBA to WWE.
23-year-old Miles Bridges has been a revelation this season. As compared to his career average of just under 12 PPG, he has amassed an overall 20.2 points thus far. Meanwhile, Drummond has been the backup big man for Philadelphia. With Joel Embiid shouldering majority of the responsibility, his role has been fairly minimal. But when it’s show time, neither of them backed down from a fight. Take a look.

On Wednesday night, the Sixers pipped the Hornets by 110-106. Yet again, it was Embiid who shone for Philly, along with valiant support. However, an ugly incident erased the magnificence of an otherwise quality encounter. In the second quarter, Bridges perhaps angered his opponent by shoving him from behind. As Seth Curry knocked down a three, the young forward pushed Drummond from behind, anticipating a defensive rebound opportunity. However, the 28-year-old was having none of it.

Following the incident, the duo stood nose-to-nose at half-court. The officials stepped in to separate them, and then dished out a double technical foul. Characteristically though, Bridges undermined the extent of the fight, claiming in a post-match interview that things were never going to get violent. “Nobody is ever going to fight in the NBA,” he said after accusing Drummond of flopping. “The NBA is kind of like WWE.”

In spite of what went on, it was Philadelphia that ultimately claimed bragging rights. Interestingly, the sides meet again in January, when Philadelphia hosts Charlotte after the new year!
