Tom Brady, Odell Beckham Jr, Russell Wilson and Other NFL Players Mourn the Loss of 33-Year-Old Demaryius Thomas

The NFL was shaken to learn about the loss of former Super Bowl champion wide receiver, Demaryius Thomas on Thursday. The 33-year-old was found dead at his home in Georgia. According to ESPN’s Jeff Legwold, preliminary information from Roswell, Georgia police suggested that the former receiver died of a medical condition.

The Broncos drafted Thomas in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft after he earned first-team All-ACC accolades during his days with the Georgia Tech in 2009. For the Broncos, he went on to play 125 games for eight and a half seasons. During which he caught 665 receptions for 9,055 yards and 60 touchdowns.

Demaryius Thomas with the Denver Broncos

With the Broncos, Thomas is second all-time in receiving yards (9,763) and touchdowns (63) behind only Rod Smith, who has 11,389 yards and 68 touchdowns. Despite the Broncos’ 43-8 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII, Thomas set a new team record with 14 catches.

However, it took little time for the Broncos to retaliate. Since the franchise won the Super Bowl two years later, with Thomas catching an eight-yard pass in a 24-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

We are devastated and completely heartbroken.

Thomas spent time with the New England Patriots and the New York Jets prior to his final season in 2019. He announced his retirement from the NFL in June 2020.
