Wonder Woman video game is a single-player open world title using the Nemesis System
Warner has announced their next DC Comics game and it’s a Wonder Woman title by Shadow Of Mordor makers Monolith Productions.
One of the biggest surprises at The Game Awards on Thursday night has turned out to be the announcement of a Wonder Woman game from Shadow Of Mordor developer Monolith Productions (not to be confused with Xenoblade Chronicles maker Monolith Soft).
Despite years of stories about cancelled Batman and Superman games, there’s never been a whisper about a Wonder Woman adaptation but it’s a welcome surprise, as she’s eminently well suited to starring in a big budget video game.
The trailer itself reveals nothing, but the description of it on YouTube says it’s a single-player open world game that will tell an original story set in the DC Universe, i.e. it’s nothing to do with the movies.
Lord of The Rings games Shadow Of Mordor and Shadow Of War were both well received, especially in terms of the Nemesis System, which allowed enemies to remember you and bear a grudge – with characters developing their own on-the-fly relationships depending on your actions.
The Wonder Woman game is confirmed to use an expansion of the same system, which does seem eminently well suited to a superhero game.
In terms of the story, apparently Diana will be fighting to ‘unite the warriors of two worlds’, with the marketing blurb adding that she will ‘fight to unite her Amazon family and the humans from the modern world’.
Wonder Woman doesn’t have the most iconic rogues’ gallery in comics but if that implies a famous story from the comics it’s not one we’re familiar with.

Since she’s basically a female Kratos, from the God Of War games (except nice), it’s not hard to imagine how Wonder Woman might work in a game.
Although it’ll be interesting to see what elements the game does and doesn’t keep from the comics, as the character has had many different interpretations and powers over the years (whether she can fly or not will be one key question).
Wonder Woman wasn’t the only DC Comics title at The Game Awards, with the first gameplay footage of Suicide Squad also making its debut, although after such a long wait it seemed a bit underwhelming.
