WWE legend Rey Mysterio has announced an animated series with Cartoon Network Latin America.
The epic project – which is called Rey Mysterio vs. La Oscuridad, or Rey Mysterio vs. The Darkness – is described as an action and comedy show following the masked luchador and a young fan called Oscar.
The duo team up to battle the forces of evil in and out of the wrestling ring, including some supernatural foes.
The main villain is set to be an evil fighter called Uroboros, who is said to use dark forces he doesn’t quite grasp.
In a statement, Jaime Jiménez Rión – Vice President of Content and Original Production, WarnerMedia Kids & Family, Latin America – said: ‘We are very excited to be able to share with Cartoon Network and Rey Mysterio fans more details and colour of this incredible production made in Mexico.
‘We are confident that you will enjoy the surprises we have in store and that the show will meet all your expectations.’
And ¡Viva Calavera! founders The Skull Brothers hailed the project as ‘a dream come true’, landing a show on such a prestigious network while getting to feature one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.
They added: ‘To have an action-comedy series on Cartoon Network is a dream come true.
‘That it puts Mexico and Lucha Libre at the center is even more, but that it has as its protagonist Rey Mysterio, whom we have admired since we were children, is simply indescribable.
