Tom Holland messed up his Star Wars audition because he ‘couldn’t stop laughing’

Tom Holland has admitted he bombed an audition for Star Wars because he struggled to keep a straight face when one of the casting team read in as a droid for him ‘with full commitment’ during the scene.

Sharing that his giggles probably weren’t the reason he didn’t land the job as he thought ‘John Boyega was just better for the role than me’, Holland spilled the beans on his audition experience for 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens on First We Feast’s Hot Ones.

He recalled: ‘I just remember thinking, “There’s no way this lady’s going to read the robot’s lines opposite me,” just because that would be ridiculous.

‘I don’t remember what my line was, but it was, “Let’s get back to the falcon!” And then this lady, bless her, would sit there with full commitment and she just was like, “beep-beep-boop-boop-boop-boop…”’

After the first try, Holland cracked up and then went for a second attempt but still couldn’t contain his laughter

He explained: ‘I remember sort of saying, “You’re not actually going to do that, right?” And she was like, “Well yeah, the robot’s part of the scene, he’s the character.”

The 25-year-old conceded that he ‘just got the giggles’, adding: ‘You know when you realise you’ve got something so wrong? I just couldn’t stop laughing.’

The Spider-Man star has been full of revelations recently as he also admitted to a rather toe-curling ‘most embarrassing moment on set’ when quizzed by listeners on the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on Friday.

He explained without skipping a beat: ‘In Spiderman: No Way Home there is a sequence where I save MJ and Ned and I catch them and have to like swing down, it’s halfway through the film, and as we landed Jacob was in front of me and Zendaya was behind me, and as I sort of squatted I let one rip and Zendaya was like right behind me.

‘The lucky thing is that in the suit, the suit is so tight that no one could smell anything.

‘Unfortunately, because the suit is so tight I could smell everything for the rest of the day… it was one of those ones where I couldn’t even pretend it was a seam ripping or something, it was very obvious.’

Zoe was in giggles as she said: ‘Even Spider-Man pops off.’
