An Antiques Roadshow guest was left speechless after having her £1 charity shop ring valued on the programme.
Expert John Benjamin had some great news to share with the owner in the episode, which was shown again on Sunday night.
Speaking to John, the guest said: ‘I bought it in a local charity shop and it was with the costume jewellery. It cost me £1. There’s no hallmarks or anything.
‘So I just thought it was a nice ring with pretty glass inside,’ she added, in the programme which was first broadcast in 2019.
There was more to the item than first met the eye, though.
As the expert examined the piece of jewellery, he said it had a ‘rather unusual fluted back’.

He went on to say it was a typical design from Georgian times, putting it somewhere between 1790 and 1800.
‘This is actually really rather rare. It’s grey because it’s actually quite a heavy spotted diamond but it doesn’t matter. It’s a rare stone,’ John said.
One of the biggest shocks came when he said that the stone was studded with rubies and a diamond, and that the ring was made in India.

‘This is a Mughal ring that’s somehow found its way from somewhere near the Taj Mahal over to a charity shop here 200 years later. It’s really quite an extraordinary thing.’
The news left the owner open-mouthed, even before the value was revealed.
‘It’s really quite an extraordinary thing,’ he explained. ‘Your £1 investment is worth £2,000.’
‘Wow, I think I’ll take it out of the drawer now and wear it,’ the owner said, after overcoming her surprise.
