Marvel fans have been left divided over a discussion to recast Chadwick Boseman’s part in Black Panther, following his death.

The actor, who played King T’Challa, died last August following a secret battle with colon cancer, at the age of 43.

Filming on the upcoming Wakanda Forever sequel began earlier this year, with Kevin Feige previously announcing that the character would not be recast.

However, this has led to debates on social media, with many suggesting that another actor could take up the role as T’Challa still has ‘more stories to tell’.

There is also a #RecastTchalla hashtag which is gaining momentum on Twitter.

‘Its a mistake to retire the role,’ one user penned. ‘Dedicate the next film to him and honor him as much as possible but theres literally a mountains worth of character development left to explore for tchalla [sic].’

‘He’s only been in four MCU movies. His character is so much bigger and more important than four movies. Let the king live on,’ another agreed.

‘I get them not immediately recasting him but yeah, they need to recast. It doesn’t make sense not to,’ a follower suggested.

Many others also shared their reasoning behind wanting the part to be left alone in the wake of Boseman’s death.

‘That’s an underestimation of the deep appeal of Chadwick Boseman on his own, let alone as this iconic, admirable character,’ a fan said.

‘It would be watered down by simply replacing the actor. Grateful Disney recognizes this.’

‘Nope, don’t recast him. Make Shuri the new Black Panther, like in the comics,’ a fan vowed. ‘Chadwick was T’challa, in the MCU there shouldn’t be another one.’

As an unimpressed person added: ‘Oh y’all nasty as hell, like I genuinely want y’all to understand this. recasting a character after the actor has passed is just tacky and disingenuous.

‘The charm.. that spark chadwick brought to tchalla is something that can never be replicated and y’all know that #RecastTchalla [sic].’

Production began on Black Panther 2 in June of this year and has been slated to be released in 2022, but it is not clear how the sequel will move forward without Boseman in the lead role.

Feige recently opening up about the ‘emotional’ experience on set without the late star.

‘It’s clearly very emotional without Chad,’ he told Variety. ‘But everyone is also very excited to bring the world of Wakanda back to the public and back to the fans.

‘We’re going to do it in a way that would make Chad proud.’
