Despite Controversy in 2020, Tyson Fury Once Again Gets Nominated for BBC’s 2021 SPOTY Award
Once again, WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has been nominated for the British Broadcasting Corporation’s 2021 ‘Sportsperson of the Year’ award. However, this nomination announcement comes as a surprise, given that the heavyweight icon basically threatened to sue the media corporation over the exact same thing last year.
In fact, Tyson Fury has had a problem with the network for quite some time now. He was first nominated for the SPOTY award in 2015; however, he made some controversial comments and a petition with 140,000 signatures demanded the removal of his name from the list. He finished fourth behind Andy Murray, Kevin Sinfield, and Jessica Ennis-Hill.
Tyson Fury has been nominated for the 2021 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award. Tom Daley, Adam Peaty, Sarah Storey, Raheem Sterling and Emma Raducanu are the other five nominees. He previously threatened to take legal action against the BBC if they nominated him.

Fury was later nominated again for a six-person shortlist in 2020. He threatened the network with legal action if they did not fail to take his name down; however, BBC proceeded anyway and Fury secured the sixth and last position.

This year, Fury has been nominated again for the 2021 SPOTY award with five other athletes from other sports; Tom Daley (Diving), Adam Peaty (Swimming), Sarah Storey (Cycling/ Swimming), Raheem Sterling (Soccer), and Emma Raducanu (Tennis).
Tyson Fury really does not want to be nominated for the SPOTY award
However, it might not be a wise move for the BBC network to enlist ‘The Gypsy King’ as a nominee for this year’s award. Earlier this week, the WBC heavyweight champion made it very clear that this award means nothing to him and he has even threatened to get his “solicitors” involved if the BBC enlist him again.
“It means nothing to me and I don’t need it or want it. In fact, they will hear from my solicitors if they do put me on the list. Give it to someone who needs it. I don’t.

“We know who the sports personality of the year is anyway – it’s me. I am the sports personality. Who does what I do, goes through a war in Las Vegas, entertains the fans, and then sings to the audience?” said Tyson Fury.
Do you think Fury will accept the award if he actually wins?
