Italy To Bid for Davis Cup’s Next Five Year Future

Italian tennis has been making huge waves lately. After bagging the rights for the ATP Finals and conducting the first edition successfully, the Italian Tennis Federation is on the lookout to bag the rights to host one of the groups for the Davis Cup 2022.

The president of the Italian Tennis Federation wishes to host one of the four groups of the Davis Cup Finals 2022. President Angelo Binaghi spoke on this subject and would like to be part of this prestigious competition and conduct the event in Turin.

Binaghi revealed the complications involved in hosting the event. According to terms, the venue must have 8000 personal seating capacity. In those terms, they rank quite low down the order, as Angelo mentioned he would’ve wanted to host the event in Cagliari. However, the former player wants Italy to be a host nation for this event.

The 61-year-old stated, “As a country, we are making an offer to host one of the groups of the Davis Cup final phase in Turin this year. We would have liked to do it in Cagliari but they are asking us for an 8,000-person sports hall. In terms of capacity, we are in 107th place in Italy. We cannot do it because there is no one here and because of this the region that has invested the most is seeing this opportunity slip away and we will participate in the competition for the first time. We would like to host the four-team groups.”
