“There Won’t Be A New Big Three”: Juan Carlos Ferrero on Tennis After Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic
Juan Carlos Ferrero, the current coach of Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz, has made a statement regarding the Big Three. It is a name collectively given to Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic due to their dominance in the game for a long time now.
Ferrero believes that after the inevitable decline of Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic, there will no longer be a similar trio. Furthermore, the former World No. 1 considers tennis players today to be “more complete than before“.

Many players have voiced their opinion on the future of tennis. Ferrero, too, believes that once Roger Federer, Nadal, and Novak Djokovic retire, there will no longer be another Big Three.
For him, no trio will be able to dominate the sport as much or as long as these three did. Similarly, Croatian star Donna Vekic, too, voiced a similar opinion. During an interview with the Jutarnji list, a Croatian newspaper, Vekic talked of how the Big Three are now nearing their decline.
The Big Three has been tennis’s best supergroup but all great things come to an end.

She mentioned how there isn’t a consistency in the names of players winning WTA tours and titles. “I believe the same will happen in men’s tennis as soon as Novak (Djokovic) stops playing, and Roger (Federer) and Rafa (Rafael Nadal) are nearing the end anyway,” she said.
Moreover, just like Ferrero, Vekic, too, stated that dominant figures are no longer a common occurrence in the sport.

Ferrero has made it clear that he considers the era of the Big Three to be over. However, he still believes that tennis will continue to have top players. “We will see top tennis players for years, like Medvedev, Zverev or Tsitsipas,” Ferrero says.
Reiterating his belief that newer players will keep upsetting the current strong ones, he continued. “But also younger ones like Sinner or Korda (will win). Hopefully, Carlos (Alcaraz) can reach this level as well,” Ferrero said.

Furthermore, the Spaniard believes that players today are more well-rounded than ever before. “I think tennis players today are more complete technically than before,” the coach to Carlos Alcaraz said.
