“Bit of a Stretch”: Nick Kyrgios Rejects Bernard Tomic Comparisons

Nick Kyrgios just took to Instagram to clear out the air about comparisons between him and Bernard Tomic. Earlier today, Bernard Tomic had said to fans that he was ‘better than Nick Kyrgios’.

Kyrgios, currently busy training for the upcoming Australian Open, was just fresh out of the gym when he responded. He talked about the claims Tomic made and then proceeded to compare himself with his fellow Australian star.

Through an ‘Ask-Me-Anything’ post on his Instagram, Bernard Tomic entertained fans’ questions. Thus, when one fan asked if he thought himself better than Nick Kyrgios, Tomic didn’t shy from answering.

“Yeah, obviously Nick’s a good player, I mean top 6, 7 servers in the world. But I obviously beat him in Kooyong, a couple years back. (His) sort of style (of play) doesn’t really bother me,” Tomic replied. Of course, he is referring to the only time the two have played each other, at the Kooyong Classic exhibition match.

Nick Kyrgios was quick to fire back, beginning his own string of story posts on Instagram in response. He talked about how he has had many people commenting to bring his attention to Tomic’s words.

Kyrgios stressed the Kooyong exhibition match, emphasizing that it was an exhibition. Clearly, he insinuated that he was not trying to win, since it was just that- an exhibition match for the fans. Furthermore, he then scathingly digs into Tomic’s professional record against him. “But to say that he’s better? I have more titles.” Kyrgios has won 6 titles on the ATP Tour, as compared to Tomic’s 4.

Nick Kyrgios when he got compared to Bernard Tomic:

“I’ve never felt more insulted. Does he have a foundation? Did he raised money for the bushfires? It’s disgusting. (…) Oh and by accomplishments (I beat the Big 4).” pic.twitter.com/tVg5zEgLAb

He then talks about their individual head-to-heads against the Big Three of tennis. “I don’t think he’s got any big scalp to his name. No Rafa, no Roger, no Djokovic.” Kyrgios, on the other hand, has the enviable record of beating all of the ‘Big 3’ in his first appearance against them.

Driving his point home, Kyrgios says, “To say that he is better than me is a bit of stretch.”

Nick Kyrgios shows his classy side by then praising Bernard Tomic. “We all know what BT (Tomic) is capable of. I wish him the best. I am no jealous person, I want success for everyone.”

Wishing him luck for next year, Kyrgios finishes, “So BT, we know what you’re capable of brother. Let’s see it, good luck man.” Who do you think is the better player between Kyrgios and Tomic?
