Countdown fans were gutted to discover Susie Dent was missing from Monday’s edition of the Channel 4 programme.
Having appeared in Dictionary Corner on the game show every year since 1992, the lexicographer and etymologist is a staple and much-adored presence.
However, viewers expressed upset after seeing Susie wasn’t on the show yesterday (December 13).
‘I’m heartbroken to have noticed @susie_dent isn’t on Countdown today,’ wrote one. ‘I hope Susie is ok.’
So where is Susie and when will she return to Countdown?

Anne Robinson explained Susie’s absence (Picture: Channel 4)
Countdown host Anne Robinson addressed Susie’s absence at the start of the programme on Monday afternoon.
She told viewers: ‘As you can see, Susie’s not here. She’s away having a Covid test.’
Anne then revealed that presenter Adrian Chiles would be filling in for Susie for the episode.
Channel 4 has confirmed that Susie will be back on Countdown on Monday (December 20).
Although she only missed one day of recording waiting for a test, five episodes were shot without her.
Susie has yet to publicly address her absence from Countdown, however, sharing a picture of her cat on Instagram on Monday, she wrote: ‘#wordoftheday is ‘nidificate’: to make a cosy nest and stay there for the foreseeable future.’
Countdown airs weekdays at 2.10pm on Channel 4.
