Ecclestone: No One ‘Intelligent Enough’ to Rob Lewis Hamilton of F1 Title, Glad for Michael Schumacher
Lewis Hamilton lost the championship battle in dramatic fashion against Max Verstappen at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. However, there are some such as former F1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone who is glad the Knight lost his eighth title.
One of the reasons Ecclestone is glad that the Mercedes driver didn’t grab another title this season, was that it meant Michael Schumacher’s record still stays intact.
Bernie Ecclestone is glad Lewis Hamilton didn’t break Schumacher’s record
Hamilton was on the verge of breaking Schumacher’s title record this season but in a dramatic end to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix saw Verstappen lift the championship instead of Britain’s Knight.
Seeing that Lewis lost out on an eight title, Ecclestone is glad Michael’s record is not yet broken. As quoted by FormulaPassion.it, “Max honestly won, which is good. People are probably happy now to see a new face at the top of Formula 1. Personally I’m happy that Lewis didn’t win the eighth World Championship , because he holds this record with Michael Schumacher. I wouldn’t like to see that record broken. it is absurd to think that Hamilton has been robbed , as I read around . On the first lap he went off the track, crossed the chicane and came back in front of Verstappen without being punished, so he shouldn’t complain too much . These things always happen in sports. We shouldn’t blame the referee, he did exactly what was right”.

“I heard Lewis on the radio team said they were distorting the championship. I would like to know who is intelligent enough to manipulate a World Cup in this way. A series of incredible circumstances happened and I’m sure everyone was more than happy to watch the races,” he explained. (Translated from Italian via Google)

The Knight had suffered a defeat in a heartbreaking manner
Hamilton stole the lead from his arch-rival, and title contender Verstappen as soon as the lights went out at the final race of the season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix; giving the Mercedes driver hope of grabbing his eighth.
However, it wasn’t over, as he was backed up by Red Bull driver Checo Perez in order to aid his Dutch teammate to get back his lead in the race. But, things were about to take a turn for the worst for Hamilton as a safety car caused insane drama towards the end of the race, which gave Max the opportunity to overtake the 7-time world champion and steal his championship.
