Good Morning Britain viewers were left feeling inspired after hearing from 101-year-old volunteer and fundraiser Dabirul Choudhury OBE on today’s programme.
The pensioner, who shot to fame last year after raising more than £420,000 by taking up a global walking challenge during lockdown, has pledged to join the ITV show’s 1 Million Minutes campaign.
Speaking to presenters Adil Ray and Ranvir Singh, Dabirul, said: ‘If I make habit to help, I feel pleasure. If I do not help somebody, I feel poor in mind. That’s why my ambition is to help mankind in the world.’
Adil then asked Dabirul how he’s managed to stay both mentally and physically fit in his old age and how he coped doing the walking challenge.
‘Two things I have to remember, I am not walking for myself but for people who are needy, the people who are helpless, the people in distress, the people who have dementia. It is my ambition to help mankind,’ Dabirul replied.
Ranvir was so moved by their guest’s comments that she admitted she was ‘filling up with tears’.

It wasn’t just Ranvir who was left feeling enthused by Dabirul though, as viewers at home also
‘Wow, 101 years old and volunteering and raising money for Alzheimer’s what a lovely man,’ wrote one.
Echoing a similar sentiment, another penned: ‘What an amazing man Uncle Choudhury is! This had me in tears. We need more people like him then the world would be a better place. It costs nothing to be kind and help others.’
A third said: ‘We need more role models like this wonderful man. What an example this man is for mankind.’
Now in its sixth consecutive year, 2021’s 1 Million Minutes initiative has been rolled out across the UK and is backed by a host of celebrity stunts and endorsements, plus the entire GMB family.
The project, which asks viewers to pledge time rather than money, has so far seen over a quarter of a billion minutes since it began, donated to charities looking for volunteers to connect with those who feel alone.
ITV launched a virtual pledge button where users can donate their time at itv.com/1millionminutes on December 1.
In 2020, the campaign achieved a record 87 million minutes pledged.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
