“That Submission Is Not a Submission”- Chael Sonnen Says Amanda Nunes’s Loss Was a Mental Lapse

We know Chael Sonnen for his impressive performances in and out of the octagon. Sonnen uses his witty humor and funny one-liners both for trash-talking and critiquing. The 44-year-old American retired from pro-MMA back in 2019.

Sonnen is currently acting as an MMA analyst and host for “The Chael Sonnen Show with Jorge Sedano” at ESPN. In which Chael speaks his mind and gives his unique perspective on the world of mixed martial arts.

Recently, he gave his two cents on the biggest upsets in MMA history. He talked about Julianna Pena and Amanda Nunes after their bout ended in Julianna’s favor. Pena defeated her opponent in front of thousands at T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, with a rare-naked choke.

Chael revealed that even a G.O.A. T (Amanda) can be criticized. He shared he has every right to criticize Amanda, as such upsets don’t happen very often. Sonnen said,” I looked at Amanda as the greatest female fighter of all-time two days ago. I woke up today still understanding that she is the greatest female fighter of all time with the most impressive record.”

Additionally, he said that a mental lapse caused the loss. Sonnen revealed, “That submission is not a submission. That was not done appropriately and wasn’t even designed to finish the fight. It was not a physical defeat, unlike say Buster Douglas who hit Mike Tyson….. or what Holly Holm did to Ronda Rousey…… This was a mental lapse by Amanda. …. That submission was not designed to end the night.”

Consequently, Chael showed his astonishment, saying, “We have never quite seen anybody we have held as high of regard as Amanda quit.”

Will Amanda Nunes retire now?

Amanda Nunes‘s defeat will go down in the same books as Holy Homes vs Ronda Rousey or Nate Diaz vs Conor McGregor, the book of the biggest upsets. Many were speculating whether Amanda will retire after this defeat. However, Amanda proved every speculator wrong.

Unlike the speculations, the 33-year-old- Brazilian announced on Instagram that she was ready for a rematch. This rematch is what many fans want and so do the fighters.
