Francis Ngannou Explains Why Ciryl Gane Has Not Yet Lost a Fight in the UFC
UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou spoke to MMA Junkie’s Mike Bohn in the lead-up to his first title defense at UFC 270. ‘The Predator’ is set to face his former teammate and training partner, Ciryl Gane, who is the interim champion. Gane has risen up the ranks in short order and has managed to extend his undefeated run so far.
Ngannou was asked about his foe’s undefeated record and the Cameroonian-born fighter wasn’t overly impressed with it. He brushed off the fact that Gane didn’t have a template drawn out to defeat him yet and talked about how losing helps in the ‘learning process’ for a fighter. Not to mention, he also reminded Bohn that he has already faced tough tests in his MMA career thus far.

“Undefeated opponent doesn’t mean anything. For me, I think undefeated just means he has a lack of experience when he comes at some point because he’s not full experience. Losing a fight is learning process as well so if haven’t get there, you can’t understand something.”
“I have fight undefeated fighters before so it’s not my first time and I know how it is. Whether you’re defeated or undefeated, you get in the cage and they lock that cage and it’s just you and your opponent and nothing matter at that point.”

Francis Ngannou: On the verge of greatness
‘The Predator’ is one of the biggest stars on the UFC’s roster who is yet to have a massive breakout moment in the mainstream. Given his penchant for violent knockouts, it’s only a matter of time before Ngannou ascends to top-tier star status. Chiefly, it was his obliteration of ‘The Demolition Man’ Alistair Overeem that kicked off his path to stardom.

With his fluid footwork and high fight IQ, fans believe knocking out out an ace like Ciryl Gane could be easier said than done.
