“We Have to Think About Our Families, Our Children”- Charles Oliveira Says He Wants the Conor McGregor Fight Next

UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira extended his unbeaten run to 10 with a dominant victory over Dustin Poirier at UFC 269. However, he already has an eye on his future fights and named one opponent he would be interested in fighting.

In a chat with MMA Fighting’s Portuguese-language podcast Trocação Franca, Oliveira revealed that he’d be more than willing to fight Conor McGregor for money, as he is the champion. However, he stated that he would have opted for the belt in the past.

Oliveira said, “If I had the opportunity to fight Conor, I would definitely fight Conor. The belt is mine regardless. The division has to get by and wait a little bit. There’s nothing else to do. We have to think about our families, our children, think about what we can do down the line.”

The main priorities of each fighter are different. At the highest level, most opportunities come with the potential to make a lot of money. For the champ, though, his highest priority right now is to go home to his family and spend time with his daughter. Regarding his next fight, ‘Do Bronx‘ said, “I’ll fight whoever the UFC puts against me. If they say it’s Conor, I’ll fight him. If they say it’s Justin, I’ll fight him.”

What records does Charles Oliveira hold?

Charles Oliveira is one of the most prolific finishers in the UFC. Fighting as a black belt in BJJ, he holds the record for the most submission victories in UFC history across all weight classes. After finishing Dustin Poirier in his last fight, Oliveira extended his record for most finishes in the UFC.

Oliveira also holds the record for most UFC fights needed to win a title. That record was previously held by Michael Bisping.
