Williams has not played in the NBA since 2017. He has been an All-Star three times. Deron Williams has been training in MMA for some time now and also owns an MMA club. Although Deron Williams dominated the match, the crowd favorite was Frank Gore. He played in the NFL last year and has reportedly turned down offers for professional boxing.

Deron Williams had come into the match with an agenda, he wanted to remove the stigma around basketball players not being physical and rough. He executed that perfectly as he defeated gore by a split decision(38-37, 37-38, 40-35). Williams outlined Gore in a total number of punches 48-39 and also in number of power punches 35-28. The fourth round was the best for Williams, as he outlined Gore 12-5 in total punches per ESPN.

Williams said after the fight, “I always was a physical point guard. I never shied away from contact, and I showed that today. People think basketball players are soft, but I never was one. That’s what I was looking to accomplish here today.“
