Lorraine Kelly is among the stars who have paid tribute after the death of Carlos Marín.

The musician, part of operatic group Il Divo, died at the age of 53.

His bandmates – Urs Bühler, David Miller, and Sébastien Izambard – confirmed the news with a short statement on Sunday, days after he was taken to hospital.

‘It is with heavy hearts that we are letting you know that our friend and partner, Carlos Marin, has passed away,’ it read. ‘He will be missed by his friends, family and fans.

‘There wiIl never be another voice or spirit like Carlos.

‘For 17 years the four of us have been on this incredible journey of Il Divo together, and we will miss our dear friend.

‘We hope and pray that his beautiful soul will rest in peace. With Love — David, Sebastien and Urs.’

They posted the same message to their Instagram page.

Marín’s cause of death has not been announced.

Following the sad announcement, fellow stars shared their condolences on Twitter.

Lorraine Kelly quoted the initial post, and wrote: ‘This is so sad. I had the joy of interviewing Carlos and @ildivoofficial many times over the years.

‘He was such a class act. Thoughts with everyone who loved him x.’

‘We had the best time putting together the first @ildivoofficial performance 17 yeas ago great voice great man a true passionate Spirit with wicked sense of humour we will miss you so sad. B [sic].’

Uri Geller described the news as ‘shocking’.

As Britain’s Got Talent winners Collabro added: ‘We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Carlos Marín. 

‘His voice and stage presence were spectacular and he was as brilliant off stage as he was whilst performing. Sending love to @ildivoofficial during this very difficult time.’

Marín was taken to hospital recently, and was thought to be in intensive care – but details of his illness were not made clear.

His bandmates spoke of his illness on social media, stating that they were ‘hoping and praying for a speedy recovery’, and had decided to postpone their remaining 2021 concerts.

‘Our dear friend and partner, Carlos, is in the hospital,’ they posted on Thursday. 

‘We are hoping and praying for a speedy recovery.’

Thanking fans for their support, the group later added: ‘We want to wish all of our fans around the world happy holidays and a Happy New Year. 

‘We also want to thank you for your prayers and well wishes for our dear Carlos during this time.’
