Good Morning Britain’s Adil Ray wasted no time in mocking his BBC Breakfast rival Dan Walker as soon as his name was mentioned on today’s programme.

Adil and Charlotte Hawkins were joined by It Takes Two host Janette Manrara to discuss the magic of the BBC competition, when she accidentally mentioned the presenter prompting a barrage of quips.

Talking about the joy of Strictly, Janette said: ‘You take people like Dan Walker or Sara Davies who’ve never done anything like this before in their lives and put them on the dancefloor.’

‘Sorry, who is Dan Walker?’ Adil interrupted, before again adding: ‘Sorry, you mention Dan Walker. Who is Dan Walker? Anyone heard of Dan Walker?’

‘Don’t worry about him,’ Charlotte added.

Continuing with his digs at Dan, Adil continued: ‘Never heard of him. Carry on.’

After giggling at Adil’s reaction, Janette soldiered on. ‘It’s about taking people who have never danced before, have never performed before in their lives, and really creating a space where they can really let go and become an artist and we all get to join in on that,’ she said.

‘So, to share the love of dance with people who have never done it before and see them falling in love with it and be a part of that journey with them is extra special.’

Of course, Dan was a breakout contestant in this year’s edition of Strictly, sailing all the way thought to the quarter finals with his partner Nadiya Bychkova. The series was ultimately won by Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice.

Reflecting on his journey on the show, Dan said he felt like a ‘completely different person’ to the person he started out as after three months of working with Nadiya.

Speaking on It Takes Two earlier this month: ‘The number of messages off people who’ve been inspired by watching a tall, awkward dad go on Strictly, who couldn’t dance and didn’t know what he was doing, to be able to do a tango like that on a Saturday night, that’s a huge change for me and a huge mindset change.

‘And it’s helped a lot of people, either trying to dance for the first time, dance in the kitchen, dance for the kids, dance with their partner, and that’s what the show is all about, really.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
